Established in 2022, Taskforce Kiwi utilises the skills and experience of former and serving defence and emergency services personnel, alongside members of the wider community, to provide direct assistance to impacted communities before, during and after disasters. At the same time we seek to provide a sense of purpose, identity and community for our volunteers.

From our volunteers
My time with Taskforce Kiwi has given me back a part of myself I didn't realise has been missing since I left the military, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to keep serving and making a difference in people's lives.
Alistair, NZDF Veteran
The experience gained can't be replicated in an exercise. It was humbling being able to offer some hope to those who felt lost or overwhelmed. I’d definitely deploy again and I’d definitely recommend it to others. Use the skills you have to lend a helping hand to those in need. The impact you can make on someone's life is huge and it makes a difference.
Jenny, NZDF Veteran and
Emergency Management Professional
I strongly encourage anyone, no matter what your background, to apply for TFK - as long as you show up with a smile and are willing to put in the hard work - you'll fit right in!
Matt, Volunteer Firefighter
From the community
“I cannot thank each one of you beautiful people enough. You did a power of work in just two days. All work carried out so professionally, and with empathy, care and respect. Now, overshadowing the sadness of the loss is a heartwarming memory of bloody good people who travelled from near and not-so-near, to solve a problem that in my grief I had struggled to put my mind to – just because they could”.

Taskforce Kiwi arrived very soon after the fires took our home, all our possessions and charred our lifestyle property. This was such a relief for us given the enourmous shock we were experiencing.
When the whole team arrived a few days later to start helping us clear some of the site, we were consulted about each step and a plan of work was relayed to us. Taskforce Kiwi worked hard and tenaciously. When we returned to the property you could really see how much their handwork had made a big difference.
We can't Thankyou enough for helping us in our time of need.
Fire impacted resident, Kaikoura
The Taskforce Kiwi volunteers turning up en masse so soon after our adverse weather event was a huge moral booster. The sight of their white Taskforce vehicles, gazebo & vests, as well as the people themselves, around the farm was a positive sight amid the devastation & our despair. Their happy but professional faces & attitudes was a blessing. Thank you so very much.
